About this deal

Pools with lights are more attractive to frogs than dark pools. Keeping your pool lights on during nighttime will attract bugs. You’ll have to spray the pool about once a week until you think you have solved your frog problem. If it rains, you’ll also need to reapply the solution. Use Citric Acid Many above-ground pool buyers just get whatever add-on is sold or recommended to them from where they buy the pool. If you are reading this though, then you are doing some research to decide if and what to get. There are three reasons why people get chemical helper add-ons. This means they must lay them in the water. Otherwise, the eggs would dry out. A female frog can lay up to 50,000 eggs at one time. Once the frog lays her eggs, they’ll descend to your pool’s bottom in a gelatinous film.

NOTE: There are a couple of alternatives for using chlorine in a swimming pool, however, I never cover them as chlorine is used in 99% of all pools and the alternatives are expensive, problematic, and not as effective as chlorine is. Fake snakes can be effective in deterring frogs from pools as they rely on water for survival and reproduction. Placing a fake snake in the pool or fountain can potentially frighten the frogs away. Additionally, maintaining trimmed plants and grass can minimize potential hiding spots for the frogs. Does salt water keep frogs away? Cyanuric Acid, CYA, is a chemical added to chlorine to prevent the sun from burning up the chlorine in a pool or hot tub – it acts as a sunscreen to protect the chlorine. For outdoor pools, it’s helpful. For hot tubs, which are usually covered unless in use, and rarely in direct sunlight, CYA is unnecessary. CYA is responsible for cloudy, irritating, smelly water that also shortens water life and causes the need to drain and refill the hot tub more often. In fact, the CDC recommends not using cyanuric acid or chlorine products with cyanuric acid in hot tubs/spas 1. You never have to worry about that with FROG @ease because it has no cyanuric acid. Young wildlife (usually young birds, opossums, squirrels, and raccoons) can fall or jump from overhanging trees. Make sure that trees are trimmed so that branches don’t hang over your pool—or, better yet, aren’t anywhere near it. Here are the most common questions we get asked about how to get rid of frogs in pools. Does chlorine kill frogs? To keep frogs away, you can spray vinegar in the areas they often visit, remove water sources in your yard to encourage them to seek water elsewhere, and utilize a natural snake repellent that deters reptiles, as both snakes and frogs dislike it. What chemicals keep frogs away? Chlorine is toxic to frogs, but it likely won’t kill them. Frogs are much more likely to die from overexerting themselves trying to get out of the pool. They are also more likely to die from exposure to the elements than chlorine. Why do frogs like pools? Maintaining a well-manicured lawn is a very helpful way to discourage frogs from coming into your yard. Without weeds, tall grass, or other leafy debris to hide in, frogs will not find your yard an agreeable habitat for their needs. Don’t Worry, Be Hoppy Most likely your motivation to spend the extra money on something not essential is to make it easier to maintain the pool. This is the best reason to get an add-on component.

You just don’t want them fouling up the pristine clarity of your pool. You can install a pond on your property so that it becomes a frog attractor. Having a large Facebook group for above ground swimming pools AND being in the pool business for all of my life, I’ve heard lots and lots of people make crazy claims of pool chemistry equipment add-ons (like a mineralizer) like “I don’t need to add any chlorine” or “it keeps my PH perfect”, and other impossibilities. Golden Coast is the exclusive UK distributor of FROG products to the wet leisure industry. FROG supply dosing systems for both pools and spas, their patented mineral technology destroys bacteria while reducing chlorine or bromine use by up to 50%. It’s essential to keep frogs out of your pool because you don’t want to have to clean up after them. If you don’t get rid of frogs from your pool, they’ll swim until they get exhausted. Then you’ll be left with a frog corpse that you have to dispose of. How do you get rid of frogs at your house?

Hopefully, the pond will be more attractive than your pool to your innumerable froggy friends. Just make sure there are stones or logs strategically placed in the water so that they can hop out when they’ve had their fill of bugs. So, as long as your Frog system delivers the correct amount of chlorine to the pool, you will be good and the unit will make it easier to maintain your pool. Frogs, on their own, are nice, helpful, and ecologically-stimulating creatures. They’re great for a garden and come with a lot of benefits like eating bugs and keeping down the pest population wherever they are. A single frog can eat over 100 insects in one night! That’s free pest control you can get behind. The placebo effect is a real thing. You may not know this, but every drug that is approved by the FDA has to perform only marginally better than a placebo. This is because a placebo (thinking that something will work to cure you) is sometimes just as effective as the thing that actually cures you. And sometimes even more so.Circulating water is, by definition, not stagnant. Keeping your pool pump running will help to avoid the issue of standing water that attracts mosquitos, gnats, and other insects to your pool as an appetizer platter for the froggies. So, if you keep your yard trimmed and free from weeds and debris, you’ll reduce the number of bugs living there. And without those bugs, the frogs will find another place to hang out and find food. Use Vinegar Above-ground pools and the way they are maintained is no exception. In the 35 years of my being in this business, everything has gotten more complex from the pool designs to the equipment to the way we chemically maintain them.

Early indications at Thompson Common are good and we’re confident that the frogs will form a self-sustaining population. The new population has begun moving around different areas of the common and has several hundred ponds to choose from,” said project manager, John Baker.

Saltwater does have an impact on frogs similar to its effect on slugs. The moisture on their skin is burned by the salt, which causes them to retreat. To deter frogs, create a mixture of saltwater and apply it as a spray in the locations where they gather. When frogs hop across the sprayed areas, their feet will be burned. Why is my pool full of frogs? Whether or not you’ve tried any of the other methods, creating an escape ramp is a great way to help any frogs who end up in your pool. Essentially, these are any devices you can install that help small animals escape the pool. Frogs lay their clutch of eggs between one and three times per year… sometimes more. And when they do, it’s a lot of eggs. Depending on the species of frog, these slippery critters can lay up to 50,000 eggs in one sitting. Good news for them, bad news for your swimming pool.
