However, the book has a strong atmospheric resemblance to Rebecca, which actually made me want to read this book- you have the dark manor, the prominent former wife whom Sophy can't seem to fully replace and a gothic air pervading most of the scenes. Service Above and Beyond - We see a lot of Lee fighting his emotions with this one. Not only is he finding himself strangely jealous about this woman that he is denying to have feelings for but then he puts her in danger and nearly loses her and it really affects him. BB does such an awesome job in this episode and though TFT is a favorite, this one just is so raw that it has to take 1st place. I liked the story especially because of Sophy, she was strong, feminist, clever. And of course, it was very fortunate that she knew about herbs to drug her stupid husband when he reclaimed his "rights as a husband", even if she wasn't willing to. I also liked her younger friends, Anne and Jane, they deserve their own book. I tried not to smile. Hearing Amanda say she'd be fine ditching Dante was a massive relief. I felt like I could breathe again.

Julian agrees to these conditions and is even offended by the last one. He feels that by asking for his word of honor that he not forcibly claim her in the marriage bed, she's implying he'd rape her, and that's akin to her besmirching his honor. Unfortunately, Julian is a big fat liar with no honor at all, despite what he claims. Even as he gives his word on these 4 conditions, he's privately planning to break every single one, and he does. The only part of this agreement he doesn't break is the second one, that she be allowed to keep her inheritance, and that one only stands because he's about a million times richer than Sophy anyway so he doesn't need her money.
